Objective: To study thought of dropping out of residency training and the associated factors among residents.
Material and Method: Cross-sectional surves was conducted among trainig residents at prince of songkla university in 2016. Questionnaires for demographic data, reasons for dropping out of the residency training and associated factors were used. Mean, percentage, chi-square, rank sum tes and fisher's exact test were used to analyze the data.
Results: There were 192 residents (50.8%) who completed the questionnaires: 58.3% of residents were female and 41.7% were male. Mean age was 27.2 years old. The reasons for residency taining were personal preference (87.0%), physician identification (30.2%), job appreciation (28.1%) and flexible or controllable job (28.6%). Ninety-five residents (4906%) had thought about dropping out of training, early in the 1st and 2nd year of training (45.3% and 43.2%). The main factor for dropping out of residency trainig was stress and the significant associated factor was the year of training, especially in the 3nd year.
Conclusion: the main reason of residency training was personal preference and the reason about dropping out of residency training was stress.
