Objective: To determine Thai patients attitudes and knowledge towards psychiatric consultation
Methods: A cross-sectional survey examined the attitudes and knowledge towards psychiatric consultation in Thai out-patients in Songklanagarind Hospital from June 2015 to May 2016, using a self-reported questionnaire.
Results: Of 386 Thai patients, 161 were male (41.6%) and 226 female (58.4%).74.6% of patients knew the meaning of psychiatrist, only 4.4% of patients didn't know. 43.7% of patients were happy to meet a psychiatrist, only 11.7% were unhappy. And 61.9% of patients thought that psychiatrists improved their lives. This study found that level of education had a statistically significant correlation with patients attitudes and knowledge towards psychiatric consultation (p<0.05)
Conclusions: Most patients knew the meaning of psychiatrist and had positive attitudes. The statistically significant difference was found in level of education.
