Objective: To determine the stress and depression sign prevalence in adolescent and early adulthood.
Method: This study is the part of the "Depressive Prevention in Adolescent and Adulthood Project" Sample was 11 institutes (2 universities and 9 schools; 5 from Nakornratchasima, and each 2 form Chaiyaphom, Bureerum, and Surin Province) by purposive sampling Research instruments included the Stress Questionnaire developed by Department of Mental Health, Beck Depression inventory (BDHI), and collected from July to December 2014. The cut off point for depressive sign were 18 and upper for stress, and 15 upper for depressive sign. Data were analyzed by frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation.
Result: The finding of stress revealed that adolescent and early adulthood was 23.90% in moderate level, 5.38% in high level, and 5.13% in the highest level. Overall the stress of them was in the mild level (X=15.60, SD 7.184). The prevalence of stress was 34.42%. For the depressive sign, adolesent and early adulthood was 19.95% in moderate level, 12.88% in high level, and 6.23% in the highest level. Overall the depressive sign of them was in the mild level 9X=13.04, SD 7.905). The prevalence of depressive sign was 39.05%. The result also found that 24.58% of sample had only stress, and 9.59% had only depressive sign. Overall, the stress and depression sign prevalence in adolescent and early adulthood was 47.72%.
Conclusion: More than half of adolescent and adulthood has a high prevalence of depression which has a high burden. Developing of appropriate system for depression is necessary and could prevent depressive symptoms in adolescent and adulthood.
