The purpose of this study were to explore depression, examined the relationships and predictive factors of depression in patients with major depressive disorder.Material and Method: A sample consisted of 145 depressive patients who came to depression clinic at Somdet Chaopraya Institute of psychiatry May 1, 2012 to September 18, 2013. The research instrument consisted of 3 sets of test includind negative automatic thoughts scale, quality of life scale, Beck Depression Inventory II (BDI II). Statistics used for data analysis were percentage, mean, standard deviation, t-test, one-way ANOVA and Pearson's product moment correlation coefficient and stepwise multiple regression analysis. Results: 47.6 percent of patients with major depressive disorder (MDD) had severe Depression. Patients with major depressive disorder who had different sex, occuption, self-harm deliberation, family relationships were significantly different. Quality of life was negatively correlated with depression and quality of life were significant predictors of depression in patients with major depressive disorder. They explained 70 percent of the variance in depression. Conclusion: MDD patients with severe depression level were 47.6%. The factors that associated with depression were gender, occupation, history of suicide, family relationships and automatic negative thought. The predictive factors of depression were automatic negative thought and quality of live.
