Objective: To study the results of the program to promote emotional intelligence of 29 students diagnosed as having ADHD and received medical treatment continuously. They were 3rd and 4th grade students in 2003 academic year of Kasersart University Laboratory school. center for educational research and development . Methods: The team of researchers is composed of 13 guidance teachers, 1 child and adolescent psychiatrist. They designed a program of activities to promote emotional intelligence, especially in the areas of self-esteem, perception and anger management, teamwork, systematic thinking and planning work, self-control, rational, consciousness, and impulsive control. 13 guidance teachers, 2 physical education teachers, 1 child adolescent psychiatrist, 1 art therapist, and 3 graduate school students major in psychology and guidance participated in providing the 5-day program for students with ฤฏ็ฏ from May 25 to 29, 2004, lasting one week nefore the beginning of the 1st semester of academic year 2004. The students with ADHD attended the program from 8.30a.m to 4.30p.m During 4.30p.m-5.30p.m each day there was a case conference between the guidance teachers and the parents to discuss about the students' behaviors. The conners' parent rating scales, the emotional intelligence questionnaire, behavior observations during the program and informal interviews were used to obtain data about the students behavior before and after the program. then, wilcoxon signed rank test was used for data analysis. Results: The findings indicated that the students behavior scores in the areas of self-control, self-esteem, concentration, and perception and anger management increased significantly at .05 level after participated in the program. However, the scores of the conners' parent rating scales before and after the program were not significantly different. Conclusions: The results of this study suggested that the true cooperation among psychiatrists, teachers, and parents is essential to achieve the goal of providing the program to improve the emotional intelligence of the students with ADHD. Although the only one week program for the students with ADHD has achieved the objectives in some areas, the continuous program is required to monitor the consistency and maintenance of desired behaviors accordingly.
