ชื่อเรื่อง/Title: ENURESIS AMONG SCHOOLCHILDREN AGED 4-7 YEARS IN YOGYAKARTA.

แหล่งที่มา/Source: Journal of The Psychiatric Association of Thailand, Vol. 26 No.4 October 1981. P157-169

รายละเอียด / Details:

Previous studies reported that the incidence of enuresis among children of 4 years is : 39% in Australia, 29% in the United States of America (White children), 12% in England and 8% in Sweden (Enfield, 1976). It occurs more often in boys than in girls (Shirley, 1984; Blomfield, 1956: Breckenridge & Vincent, 1966; Bakwin, 1973; Freedman et al, 1973; Palmisano, 1976 and Connell, 1979). It usually occurs more often in children of low educated parents and of those of low socioeconomic classes (Bloomfield, 1956; Cohen 1975; Palmisano, 1976; Barker; 1976; Connell, 1979 and Kish, 1979). The purpose of this study of the problem of enuretic children is to identify, whether there is any significant difference between our study in Yogyakarta and the above - mentioned previous in vestigations In Indonesia-especially in Yogyakarta there are no definite data about the incidence of enuresis as well as other problems connected with it, in the genera child population. Yogyakarta a city with 2.745 million people (census 1980) with approximately 400 doctors, consisting of General Practitioners and many specialists-consists of 40% children below the age of 15. If 15% of just mentioned percentage is between 4-7 years, then there is the amount of 164,700 children of that age Yogyakarta now. We have found about 13,176 enuretic children by taking the lowest percentage (i.e. 8%) of that amount-after figuring the frequency of enuresis in Yogyakarta. On the other hand from 100 questionaires which have been distributed to doctors practising for 5 to 10 years, we have only 31 cases enuretic children visiting them (table 12). To complete the study we have chosen one rural and one urban area at random : Two Kindergartens (rural & urban), two first grades of the Elementary School (rural & urban), one play-group and one Model Kindergarten in urban area, also taken at random sampling. 350 questionaires have been distributed to the parents of the children, attending the above-mentioned schools. These questionaires contain items, related to the identity of the children, the education and occupation of their parents, the parents’ attitude towards enuretic children and their initiative in treating them. The obtained result revealed that there are significant differences between our study in Yogyakarta and the previous ones operated by those from western Countries.
