รายละเอียด / Details:

The structured performance Thai Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) , a brief test of cognitive functions, was administered to 110 elderly Thai urban dwellers, aged over 60 years. Results of the present study show that the total score of the Thai MMSE was significantly associated with educational level, occupation (either at present or prior to retirement), Beck’s depression inventory score and the Digit Span subtest (WAIS), but not with age or sex (P‹0.00-0.01) When comparing the mean scores for individual items on the MMSE with the study done by Galasko et al15, the results were nearly equivalent. Therefore, we recommend that the same cut-off score (i.e. below 24 out of a possible 30 points on the Thai MMSE) may be used to indicate cognitive impairment.
