Summary: After describing a brief idea in gereral practice and the trend towards specialization in medical practice and research, the author points out the too often neglected high incidence of psychosomatic or the so-called stress disorders. He also elicited two often overlooked even in standard psychiatric texhooks dynamicisms which give rise to many unaccountable psychosomatic disorders in general practicevix. The conditioning and hypnotic reactions. The conditioning reactions can be much easuly formed in highly emotional states. The hypnotic reaction can be much easily initiated by physical illness, exhaustion, mass hypnosis etc. Once established it may be perpetuated by conditioning and or association and give rise to the unconcious tension-symptoms complex viscious cycle. He also claims hypnosis in selected cases and intelligently applied can be helpful in dispelling the tension-symptoms and hence break up the viscious cycle. The therapeutic results can be at time very dramtic and in a certain case it is nothing but scientific miracles. The author cites Giogio Babgivi 1698 to stress the influence of words the highest form of communication in evolution scale Which may have far reaching affect in curing and or causing diseases iatrogenieally. Hypnosis the best way of learning the effect of words and its place in prevention and therapeutics. Last but not least, those who engaged in general practice should not be discouraged by the present trend of specialization where technical skill hand and specialized knowledge head com before the heart (humanity, humilation, humour, human nature.) So there is always a chance and a place to establish oneself in general practice if the practitioner really has a heart to devote to his patients and profession in which the art of practice has as much a part to play if not more then the science of medicine.
