The Purose of this study was to investigate developmental stages and social maturity of the orphans at Viengping Children's Home Chiang Mai. Two groups of the orphana were compared.One group was the orphana who had stayed at the orpanage for less than one year and the other group had stayed for more than one year. Correlation between developmental stages variable and social maturity variable was analysed, from a sample of 63 orphans. Diagnostic Inventory Screening for Children and Vineland Social Maturity Scale were used for assessment. SPPS Pc+ was applied to analyse for percentage X2 and correlation The majority of the group were between 1-2 years old 34.92% and from birth up to 1 year old 23.81% . Theorphans were left unwanted at hospital and other places 44.44%. From the developmental stages assessment 84.1% of the orphans were classified as slow. The assesment from the social maturity scale showed that 65.1% of the subkects were below the standard. There were no differences between the two groups of the sunjects on the developmental stages variable and social maturity variable were negatively correlated and statistical significance at 0.01
