The purpose of this descriptive research was to study the needs of relatives to clitically ill patients. The study was conducted in the medical and surgical intensive care unit of Chiangrai Hospital during June 1 to August 31, 1995. The ninely purposive samples consisted of parents spouses and children of the critically ill parents. The critical care family needs inventory developed by Molter was used to assess needs of relatives in 6 categories: decrease anxitory obtain information being with the patient, being helpful to the patient and being support and ventilate as well as personal needs. The reliability of the questionnaire was 0.90 Data was analyzed by using frequency percentage means and standard deviation. The result of the research revealed that the most important needs expressed by the relatives were: to decrease anxity, to receive information to be helpful to the patients and being with the patients respectively. The least important needs were: the need for support and ventilate as well as porsonal needs. The majority of the relatives important needs were met by nurses in the critical care unit
