This study is a research and development in nursing care aiming at developing an integrated rehabilitation and self-care model fo teen drug-addict patients who sought treatment at Thanyarak Hospital. The study was divided into 2 phases: the development of an integrated rehabilitation and self-care model for teen drug-addicts and the study of the effectiveness of the model. Samples used in this study were logbooks recording activities for patients receiving detoxification and 20 male teen patients who received detoxification at Thanyarak Hospital during July to August 1997. Result from the analysis of the existing rehabilitation and self-care program fro teen drug addicts showed problems related to group activities that stemmed from both instructors and patients that needed to be certified. The konwledge of all instructors must be raised up to the same standard. A group of specialists in rehabilitation and self-care for teen drug addict patients had taken these results to develop a new model called "Integrated Rehabilitation and self-care for Teen Drug Addict Patients". The model included 4 learning modules-health status self-assessment, self care, self improvement, and self adjustment and building self esteem and the activities of which had been designed accordingly. These modules and activities were introduced to the patients through a twelve-day training program. Prior to the intervention of the training program,t he instructor were trained and the manuals had been prepared correspondingly. Pre and tests were carried out to compare the levels of the knowledge of the patients in respective areas before and after the training. Rasults from this study showed that at the training program, the sampled patients had significantly higher levels of knowledge in all learning modules (p‹.05).
