This is a survey research aimed at 1. To survey an amount and category of nursing personnel working at all devisions in Mental Health and Psychiatric Institutions, Department of Mental Health 2. To study the opinion of Devision Head toward the work performed by nursing personnel working in and outside nursing department ; 3. To study nursing personnel's opinion toward the present job 4. To study the causes of working conditions and work load at their devision. A sample is the staff working in the Mental Gealth and Psychiatric Institutions, Department of Mental Helath, the Ministry of Public Health which composed of 74 devision head, 2,426 nursing personnel (registered nurses technical nurses, practical nurses and nurses-aides) working in the nursing devision and 417 nursing personnel working outside the nursing devision. The data were collected by using a survey form and two questionaires developed by the investigators. The data were analyzed by using a computer program SPSS/PC+The majoy finding are as follow; 1. Most nursing personnel working at the nursing devision mostly nurse-aides. Has been working at other devision 2. Head of Nursing devision expressed highly that, it was usuitable to place nursing personnel at non-nursing devisions expressed highly that, it was suitable. However the devision heads stated that the preparation of staff who have the right knowledge for their job would be a better choice for effective job and also for their promotion in their career. 3. Nursing personnel who have been working at the nursing devision expredded highly that, it was the right place for them working at the nursing devision. The prodessional and technical-nurses reasoned that; putting the right man to thr right job and practical nurses said that they have been working within the scope of their job description which will bring them to advanced skills, however nurse-aide had the reason for their job placement. In addition. Professional and technical nurses showed significant differences aat .05 level between the mean score (1) the scope of prefessional work (2) nursing skills development and (3) academic work development and no significanec differences in (4) professional progressive career. However, the mean score of aspects (1),(3) and (4) perceived by professional nurses who have been working at other devisions were higher than technical nurses perceptions. In comparison of professional and technical nurses' opinions among in different devision showed that staff working at nursing devusion indicated higher mean score than those who were working at other devisions in aspects (1) and (2), however in aspects (3) showed the lower score. Technical nurses working at nursing devision indicated higher mean score in aspect (4) than those who were working at other devisions. 4. The three highest mean score of the reasons towards their work at other devisions besides nursing devision were satisfying the responsibility and their boss for the promotion and informal coaching. 5. In considering of nursing personnel's work load the investigators devided the mojor work into 2 groups and in 4 aspects group 1 the significant work within job description, group II providing most of the time on the job, and each group has 4 aspects there were 1 nursing work, worked relaated to nursing, and non-nursing work, the finding were as follows; In group I all categories of nursing personnel have been working in aspect (1) hight than in aspects (2) and (3) ; for professional nurses they had higher mean score for aspect (2) than aspect (3); and there was no significant different in mean score of aspect (2) and (3) perceived by professional nurses. The professional and technical nurse showed no significant differences at .05 level in aspect (1) while the professional nurses indicated higher mean score than other nursing personnel in aspect (2) and (3) ; and the professional nurses had low mean score of aspect (3) than the technical nurses. In group II, the professional nurses have been workong in aspect (1) less than in aspect (2) but more than (3), while the technical nurses indicated they worked in aspect (1) and (2) more than aspect (3), and practical nurse expresses that they worked in aspect (3) more than aspect (1) and (2) , and nurse-aides showed no differences working in all aspects of job. There was no significant differences in aspect (1) for the professional, practical nurses and nurse-aides while in aspect (2) and (3) the professional nurses have been workong more than the other categories of nursing personnel, and in aspect (3) there was no significant differences at .05 level in all kinds of nursing personnel.
